Iran and US Postpone Swiss Meeting but Sign Digital MOU

3 Min Read

Iran and the United States have postponed a high-level meeting in Switzerland, though both nations indicate that diplomatic momentum continues following the digital signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at ending the war. Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed on Friday that while the initial talks were delayed, preparations are already underway for a new meeting in the coming days. According to Reuters, the ministry stated that a final agreement now depends on the commencement and continued implementation of the specific terms outlined in the recently formalized memorandum.

The transition to a digital signature for the MOU reduced the immediate urgency of the Friday meeting, leading to shifts in diplomatic schedules. The White House announced late Thursday that Vice President JD Vance delayed his trip to Switzerland, citing logistics that were neither “simple nor predictable.” Despite these delays, the Swiss government remains ready to facilitate future discussions, and preparatory work for the next session is currently in progress.

Tehran has signaled that while diplomatic efforts remain active, the path to a final agreement requires the agreed terms to be put into practice first. As these geopolitical developments unfold, the US Dollar has shown varied performance against major global currencies, notably gaining strength against the Swiss Franc as markets monitor the evolving situation.
